My Name is Sangeetha Kamath…!

I am based in San Jose, California. I was born and raised in Chennai, the cultural capital of South India. I guess I was inclined to becoming an artist at a very young age and as I grew older I was lucky enough to follow my passion. Now I am a professional artist and also teach art to many children at First Stroke, my school for budding artists. I am also excited that my paintings are slowly finding their way into many homes in the bay area and other states.

My paintings are a reflection of my upbringing amidst treasured tradition, culture and customs. Vibrant, picturesque, colorful, bright, mystic are words one could use to describe my art. To me, painting is more of a relaxation, a meditation as it allows me to transcend to a different world I may otherwise want to be in. My subjects are mostly imaginary, be it figurative or of places. Although some of my commissioned works include portraits, my paintings are mostly combination of real and the unreal. Likewise, my style is realistic with a touch of abstract impressionist quality to it. My recent works have been more of spiritual and religious subjects.
